About Move N' Groove NOVA

The Teacher
Jackie Huffman has been an elementary music teacher in the DC/MD/VA area for the past 9 years. She received her Masters degree in Music Education from CNU in 2015. She has taught music to all ages, including choir, musical theater, voice lessons, dance, and general music. After having a baby of her own, she discovered her passion for early infant music education. She also realized how many mom friends she had who desired more knowledge about how to be musical with their babies. And thus began Move N' Groove NOVA!

Class Purpose & Philosophy
Here at Move N' Groove NOVA, we believe that music, movement, and development go hand-in-hand. Music immerses the child in language, encourages rhythmic movement, stimulates the brain, and fosters physical coordination. The goal for our class is to build musical curiosity through a sense of comfortability and community. We believe all all children are born with the potential to be musical and learn through movement and absorbing, and that music at early ages helps children express themselves and share feelings. Even young babies can sway, bounce, move their hands in response to music they hear. As children grown and develop, they can learn to laugh, repeat words, and music can encourage them to use these words and memorize them.
Research findings show that the early years offer an optimal window for nurturing that potential, and support the importance of music and movement in early childhood. For some children, music is possibly their only form of self-expression before language takes over. Musical experiences can help enhance learning, listening & literacy while providing tools to promote social and emotional success. Music should also be recognized as an art form and appreciated for its pure enjoyment and enriching qualities. At Move N' Groove, we focus on taking the whole child into account while respecting individual differences. Our goal is to expose children to a rich musical environment that will provide them an opportunity to experience music and deepen their natural connection with both movement and music.
